As
mixed media artists, we craft objects that tell a story. We use
metal, cloth, clay, plaster, paper and paint to suggest a narrative.
Sometimes a found object may start the process. An old key, a
glove, a hat, a lunch box or ball of twine may initiate the imagining.
Perhaps a text may claim us. A song lyric, a poet’s language,
a fragment of a letter from home, or a folk tale or myth might
start the process. An image may be the catalyst. It may be from
art history, family history, the view of a favorite place, person
or thing. We are excited to see what you imagine and make as we
work together.

Class
Size and Space Required
The number of participants is limited by the size of the space.
Each participant should be equipped with a roomy, well lit work
surface (18" X 36" or more) and comfortable seating. 12
is an ideal number but we can accommodate up to 15 if the space
is large enough. We have taught in all sorts of settings—private
homes, garages, universities, art centers and libraries, to mention
a few. Our set up is flexible, but we will need, in addition to
participant work tables, a share table, and 2 - 4 areas tables for
tools and supplies. We like to set up the space with 2 - 4 common
work stations/demo areas, depending on the workshop we are teaching.
We will require a nearby source of water, and several electrical
outlets (or heavy duty extension cords to reach outlets). Ideally
we would love easy access to the outdoors and access to a copy machine.
A typical class day is roughly 6 hours long. We can be flexible
with scheduling, but find that 10 to 12 with an hour off for lunch
and then 1 to 4 is usually a good time frame. |
Slide
Shows
We like to preface our workshop with a slide talk the evening before
to get participants thinking about the full range of possibilities
for their own work. Our slide talk illustrates the subject at hand
with inspiring images. This slide show is included in the cost of
the workshop.
We are also available to do a separate slide talk and trunk show.
This can open to the public and admission charged if the sponsoring
group wishes. Such a talk makes it possible to include people who
cannot attend a full workshop and perhaps interest them in participating
future offerings. We have several talks prepared, including one that
is focused on our life and work and images that inspire us. Our talks
last 45 minutes to 2 hours and allow time for Q and A throughout.
