Altered Book by Nancy Strong
|
Nancy altered an old geography book while on
an adventurous camping trip. The book is about six universal
virtures as described by Martin Sleigman in his book "Authentic
Happiness". Sleigman has written about a science that seeks
to understand positive emotion, build strength and virtue, and
provide guideposts for finding what Aristotle called the `good
life,'
"Trying to fix weaknesses won't help, he
says; rather, incorporating strengths such as humor, originality
and generosity into everyday interactions with people is a better
way to achieve happiness."
Nan has created her own road map for human emotion
here with little windows that the reader opens that list the
behaviors leading to the virtues shown on the page.

These concepts are a result of many years of research across culture's
and time. The specific behaviors mentioned are those when practiced,
lead to the acquisition of the "virtues". By learning
which of the behaviors you possess and find satisfaction from,
Seligman believes that you can obtain "Authentic Happiness"
by delibertly engaging in these behaviors.
